Paperback Freud: Raise it up the flagpole

14/03/06  ||  Lord K Philipson

Sometimes I wonder if people actually knows what Global Domination is about… Do you usually see alot of reviews dealing with crappy hardrock at this site (Nightwish and Benighted don’t fucken count)? Are bands like Mötley Crap and Guns’n’Penises a usual thing for us to cover? Can you imagine anyone of us having alot of cheesy hardrock-albums (well… some of us do) in our collection? The usual answer to this would be no, in all areas.

But no matter what, Paperback Freud (awesome name, not…) got
sent to us from Plug or Die Records, or whatever the fucken label is called. And boy, these guys aren’t getting much love from me, that’s for fucken sure.

You can easily imagine the style of these guys by the mentioned bands above. Just add that these goat-semen drinkers are nowhere near those bands. Paperback Penis (how come it’s always hilarious to change band-names to something with “penis”?) has got a lot of songs to write before they come up with a “Paradise city” or “Shout at the devil”. Or obviously any decent shit whatsoever.

The poor material cannot be helped by the fact that one of the guys looks like the mighty Jörgen Sandström and another one looks like bag-lady Slash. I don’t think a fucken team of paramedics can help these guys to shit out something that actually feels vital whatsoever. I prefer label-mates Enemies SWE to this, but not by much. I can appreciate the attempt. I can appreciate some old hardrock. But I just can’t help myself to appreciate Paperback Freud.

This is not an album, it’s a single. Note to the label: Don’t bother sending us their full-length if they ever get to release one of those.

And last off: With a guy named “Thundersteel” on drums, you are bound to fail. I’m not even commenting on the Jake the Snake-character. Wrestling-names must never be used in music.

3/10
